Our American Retro Pugs are bred to keep what people love most about the pug: the expressive face, the loyal heart, the comic personality, while softening the extremes that can hold a companion back. The result is a dog that still looks like a pug at first glance, then surprises you with a slightly longer nose, a slightly longer body, and a brighter, more athletic way of moving through the day.

Our Genetics: Every American Retro Pug in our program is built on a deliberate mix:

50% Pug
25% Chihuahua
25% Miniature Dachshund

The pug remains the foundation. That half of the pedigree is what preserves the round head, dark eyes, compact presence, and affectionate “velcro” temperament people expect. The Chihuahua and Miniature Dachshund quarters serve a purpose, not novelty. Together they add length through the muzzle and body without erasing the pug look. That is the point of the American Retro Pug: a slightly longer body and nose, without losing the pug characteristics.
